Admissions Criteria

Who Qualifies To Be an UB Student?

To be eligible for admission into Upward Bound, a student must meet the following requirements:

• First-generation student (parents did not graduate from a 4–year college)
• Low-income background
• Students with a high risk for academic failure
• Potential to succeed in college
• Eighth grade or freshmen in high school
• Enrollment in one of Upward Bound's target high schools in Southern Alameda County (Hayward, Mt. Eden, Tennyson, San Lorenzo, James Logan)
• U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
