This test is NOT administered at CSUEB.

Purpose of the PRAXIS: The Praxis Series is composed of examinations that measure academic achievements and proficiencies of students entering or completing college or provisional teacher preparation programs, and of individuals in professional areas. In California, two sections of The Praxis Series may be applicable:

1) MSAT: Generally applicable for the K-6 curriculum, subject matter preparation programs for the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and active input from California educators. It has a multiple-choice Content Knowledge section, plus Content Area Exercises 1 and 2 which require the candidate-constructed responses.

2) Subject Assessments: Used to earn a Single Subject Teaching Credential, generally applicable for grades 7-12. The "PRAXIS California Registration Bulletin" lists the Subject Assessment tests needed for various certification areas. Some subjects require both a multiple-choice test (see SSAT: Single Subject Assessments for Teaching) and one or more candidate-constructed response tests.

Who must take the PRAXIS: In California, a Single Subject Teaching Credential authorizes an individual to teach a specific subject usually in secondary schools, grades 7-12. A Multiple Subject Teaching Credential enables the teaching of all subjects at any level.
