The Faculty's Role in Student Accessibility
Welcome faculty! If we haven't already met, we look forward to working with you. We are Accessibility Services and our goal is to ensure equal opportunities and accessibility for all students. But we can't do this alone.
Our office verifies disabilities, determines and arranges accommodations, and provides student support. As a faculty member, you are responsible for maintaining a safe and accessible classroom and for honoring students' Accessibility Services-approved accommodations.
We try to make the accommodation process as smooth as possible and are happy to assist you in developing an accessible classroom. The topics below offer a foundation covering universal design, how to comply with accommodations, how to avoid costly lawsuits for both yourself and the University, and the best ways to work with our students.

Shared Responsibilities: Faculty, Students, and Accessibility Services
To better understand the unique experiences of students with disabilities, check out the video series From Where I Sit featuring CSUEB students, staff, and faculty.
If these topics bring up questions or concerns, please contact us or request a meeting with a disability counselor.
Consider inviting us to speak at one of your department meetings. Our presentations include an overview of Accessibility Services accommodations, tips for faculty, and time for questions, discussion, and problem solving.
Last, but not least: a thank-you. We appreciate the time, energy, and support you give to Accessibility Services students. We've been particularly impressed with faculty who are understanding of students' needs and flexible in their teaching and learning styles, while maintaining the standards of a rigorous university course (and holding our students to them). This is not an easy task and for that you have our gratitude.
