Campus Safety Week is a new program created by the University Police Department at California State University, East Bay. Working collaboratively with partners on and off campus, UPD hopes to provide an exciting week of programs around the topics of safety and security. The Safety Week activities are open to all campus students, staff, faculty, and administrators.

Schedule of Events for Safety Week 2013

The inaugural Campus Safety Week will be held October 21-25, 2013. All events are free and will take place at the Hayward Campus, unless otherwise noted. No tickets or reservations are required; however, we encourage you to "join" the Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/605660036159453/.

CSUEB Swimming Pool
Title: Be Safe in Water
Description: In this workshop, you will learn about the risks involved with pools, lakes, oceans, and other bodies of water. We will also go over floating, survival strokes, flotation devices, and how to help someone in water. Wear your swimsuit - some of the activities will involve getting in the water. This class is appropriate for those that are fearful of water. You will not be forced to get in the water, but we would like you to wear your swimsuit just in case.

Title: Party Smart: Without the Drama
Description: Test your knowledge of how to party smart with this interactive workshop, get tips to keep yourself and your friends safe next time you go out to party, and learn about campus resources.

Cypress Grove/Dining Commons Quad
Title: Safety Week Tabling Event
Description: Please come visit us to gather information on Safety Week and other safety information on your way to dinner in the Dining Commons. Accessibility Services, Athletics, Bookstore, Community Policing Advisory Board, Emergency Operations Center, Environmental Health & Safety, Student Health Center, Student Housing and Residence Life, University Police Department, and US Bank all partnered together for this informational event. UPD will be providing property engraving services and drunk goggle demonstrations. UPD’s own DJ Midnight (Theo Folorunso) will be deejaying the event.

Title: Fire Safety Presentation
Description: Learn about fire safety tips for your home, office and community!

Title: Rape Aggression Defense
Description:
Join us for a women’s self-defense class called Rape Aggression Defense (RAD). R.A.D. Systems balances the needs of women to acquire self-defense education in a relatively short period of time, with the lifelong commitment required for physical skill mastery. How? By providing short term training opportunities in a progressive building block format, and combining each with R.A.D.'s trademark Lifetime Return and Practice Policy!

Title: Workplace Violence Presentation
Description: This class is designed to recognize potential signs of workplace violence in work areas and schools. It is also designed to give individuals the tools to prepare for a workplace violence incident, documenting suspicious behavior, and use of pass codes and office safety tips.

Title: Emergency Evacuations, Response, and Preparedness 
Description:
This workshop will cover disaster planning & preparedness, evacuation procedures, building assembly areas, fire response, fire extinguishers, earthquakes, hazardous materials, elevator safety, emergency notification system, and emergency volunteers. Information will also include how to be safe around gas and electric services.

Title: Earthquake Survival Kit Design and Emergency Preparedness Presentation
Description: Come join your Student Housing resident assistants for this informational event. Emergency Operations Center Commander James Hodges and Environmental Health and Safety Director Donna Placzek will be there to provide you emergency preparedness information. You will also be provided supplies to start your own personal survival kit in event of emergencies like earthquakes. Supplies are limited to approximately 50 bags and will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

Title: Active Shooter Presentation
Description: A workshop on the how to detect warning signs and reporting subjects displaying violent or strange behavior. How to prepare yourself mentally in an active shooter situation. The do’s and don’ts during an active shooter and tips about your work area.

Title: UPD Presentation and Town Hall
Description: Chief Sheryl Boykins of the University Police Department will provide an introduction to her community policing based vision for UPD and debut UPD’s “see it, hear it, report it” safety campaign. Chief Boykins and other members of UPD will present safety related information and answer any questions you have about law enforcement. UPD will also unveil their upcoming substation located conveniently inside Pioneer Heights Student Housing. The Hayward Police Department K9 unit will provide a live K9 demonstration and information about their unit.

Title: Urban Cycling 101 Classroom Workshop
Description: The East Bay Bicycle Coalition, with support from Cal State East Bay, is providing this free, 2-hour interactive classroom course teaching the basics of safe cycling, riding in traffic, equipment, crash avoidance, and rights and responsibilities. For adults and teens, no bike required. Lunch (pizza) will be provided. Every attendee will receive a free reflective safety vest for participating. The workshop is sponsored by CSUEB Parking and Transportation Services.
