Dr. Mike Ferketich '84, '01

I earned my first graduate degree (MBA, Finance) in the 80s and a second graduate degree (MS, Counseling) while working on campus in 2001. During the 90s I became involved with the Alumni Association and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. When I became "semi-retired," I thought about where I wanted to make an impact as a volunteer. The choice was obvious. I choose Cal State East Bay because of its excellent reputation with employers and because of the relationships I had developed with staff and faculty on campus and with other alumni. I returned to the Association board and was elected as the president in 2009. I am inspired by the students and want to make their educational experiences as rich as possible by including alumni in as many roles as possible within university life. Alumni have so much to offer as volunteers, mentors, and professional experts. A strong Alumni Association can be of tremendous value to our graduates.

I invite you to join us in giving back to this incredibly worthwhile university, while helping us make the Alumni Association a stronger organization for all graduates and for the students.

Staying Connected

Alumni have an important role in the Cal State East Bay community. Our graduates serve as the very best examples of the Cal State East Bay education and present a rich resource for our students as working professionals.

There are a number of ways that you can make Cal State East Bay an important part of your busy lives, even if you only have a few minutes.

5 Minutes

Action: In your daily conversations, encourage prospective students to consider Cal State East Bay.
Impact: You promote the value of education in your community and support strong enrollment at your alma mater.

Action: Become a member of the Alumni Association.
Impact: You support programs that improve the student experience and keep alumni connected.

Action: Make Inside CSUEB newsblog your homepage - for the latest university and alumni news.
Impact: You stay up-to-date about your alma mater and become an even more powerful advocate for the university and our current students.

15 Minutes

Action: Get connected with the CSU East Bay alumni groups online.
Impact: You benefit from making new connections with alumni and you add value to our students' networking experiences.

Action: Make an online gift to the University
Impact: You support the development of Cal State East Bay as a regional leader in higher education.

30 Minutes

Action: Call to congratulate 10 students who have just been admitted to CSUEB.
Impact: You make prospective students feel special and give them an inside view with your unique alumni perspective.

A couple of hours or more

Action: Attend a local college fair near your work or home with Cal State East Bay recruiters.
Impact: You share the outcome of a CSU East Bay education with prospective students and their families. The recruiters handle all of the hard questions, so there is no learning curve!

Action: Speak to our students in their classes and add industry knowledge to the academic setting.
Impact: You help students gain clarity about the professional world.

Action: Join a college or department advisory board.
Impact: Our administrators benefit from your industry expertise and understanding of workplace needs.
