Early Childhood Education Center

The Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC), exists at CSU East Bay through a partnership between Associated Students, Inc and Child Family Community Services, Inc.  The Center provides quality early childhood programs and services in a safe, nurturing and supportive environment for the infant, toddler and preschool children of the students, staff and faculty of CSU East Bay students.

Mission

The mission of the center is to provide quality early childhood programs and services for the infant, toddler, and preschool children of the students, faculty and staff and local community.

The Program

Overview

The program at the ECEC is designed with the implementation of the most current research, best practices, and innovative and developmentally appropriate activities.  The ECEC takes an emergent approach to the Creative Curriculum, a nationally recognized, comprehensive and developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum that addresses all aspects of early child development.  This approach emphasizes that learning occurs when children engage in purposeful play that is facilitated by highly intentional teaching practices.

Infant Room

The ECEC serves infants between the ages of 4 and 18 months.  A group size of 8 is maintained with a teacher/child ratio of 1:4.  The ECEC staff recognize that infants grow and learn best when they feel psychologically and physically safe and secure.  Infant teachers work in cooperation with parents to create a consistent environment and routine to support the development of each baby’s sensory, physical, social, and emotional and cognitive development.

Toddler Room

The ECEC accepts 16 toddlers between the ages of 18 and 36 months and maintains a teacher/child ratio of 1:4.  The first three years of life are a critical time for discovery, during which children learn who they are, how to relate to others, how to express their feelings and how to feel competent.  Toddler teachers work with parents to create an environment and routine that enables children to achieve these objectives.

Nutrition

The children’s program at the ECEC includes a nutritious breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack.  A variety of foods are offered to the children in an effort to expand awareness of foods and to represent the large number of different ethnic backgrounds at the center.  Each meal follows the guidelines established by the Child and Adult Care Food Program

CFCS

The ECEC operates in partnership with Child Family Community Services, Inc (CFCS).
