THE BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS, CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY EAST BAY
About the Business Opportunity Program
The Business Opportunity Program (BOP) in the College of Business and Economics brings experiential learning into the classroom. Students work on actual business problems and learn first-hand what the real world of business is all about. They also gain experience in working in a service provider/client relationship. The BOP gives businesses access to faculty talent and expertise, providing them with valuable resources for decision-making. Student talent is tapped and honed under careful faculty supervision.
What Kinds of Problems does the BOP Work On?
The BOP focuses on triaging faculty domain expertise, student talent, and relevant courses. The first step is a meeting with the program’s director to establish the project’s parameters within this context. The BOP’s specialized and knowledgeable faculty members are key to the breadth of projects and types of organizations served: large and small, for-profit and non-profit, high tech and non-high tech, product as well as service companies. BOP project areas include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Development of business plans, including competitive analysis
- Assessment of demand and market sizing for new products
- Pricing and positioning
- Product launches, trade shows
- Entrepreneurship and innovation
While the BOP does not accept fees for its service, donations to the program are warmly welcomed.
