CTC and NCATE Accreditation
Message to Credential Candidates
Credential programs at CSU East Bay are accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Both organizations completed a review of our credential programs in April of 2009. As a result, both organizations granted CSU East Bay "continued accreditation with conditions." This means we can continue to operate our credential programs. Simply put, when you complete all program requirements, you will receive your credential.
Reviewers from both organizations noted the high quality of all programs at CSU East Bay. We were very pleased with this result. However, each set of reviewers concluded that CSU East Bay needed to make improvements in what is called "Unit Assessment." This means that we need to do a better job of evaluating the "Unit," which includes all accredited programs and the operations of the relevant departments and colleges. A CTC team reviewed our new Unit Assessment Plan in March of 2010 and approved it. A joint CTC/ NCATE review team will visit us in the Spring of 2011 to determine if we have implemented that plan. For each agency, we anticipate a positive outcome.
