CSU East Bay Team Member Wins First Place Award at 23th Annual CSU Research Competition

A member of the CSU East Bay team won a First Place Award at the 23st Annual CSU Research Competition held at California State University, Los Angeles on May 1 and 2, 2009.

  • Bryan Brandow won first place in the Education category for his research presentation on "Cultural Transmission of Latino Families:  Bridging the Achievement Gap."  Bryan is in the M.A. in Education program.  His faculty sponsor is Dr. Jeannette Bicais.

Over 180 CSU students participated in 18 categories. Each campus was allowed to enter a maximum of 10 presentations.  CSU East Bay entered 8 students in 5 categories. Only 6 campuses won more first place awards, so our team did well, which is an indication of the great job our undergraduate and graduate students do with research and the excellent preparation in research skills they receive from our faculty.

All of the CSUEB students who participated in the CSU Research Competition did an outstanding job of representing the university.  The other student presenters were

·        Khaldeyah Awwad, M.S. Chemistry

·        Eric Bahr, B.S. Physics

·        Adithay Chandregowda, M.S. Speech Pathology and Audiology

·        Anna Desai, M.S. Chemistry

Accreditation Visit April 19-22, 2009

In order to work as a teacher, counselor, school psychologist, audiologist or school administrator in California, candidates must meet requirements outlined by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). In order to ensure the quality of those programs and to encourage continual program improvement, the CTC works in conjunction with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) to conduct on-site visits. A team of 24 reviewers will be on campus between April 19 and April 22 to observe in classes, talk with current and former students, interview employers, review student work and have discussions with professors.
