Social Justice League

The Social Justice League is a student organization that is supported by the Department of Educational Psychology and recognized the University.
Mission
To empower people to work toward positive social change and social justice by:
- Advocating for disadvantaged youth and underrepresented community members.
- Raising awareness for mental health services.
Club Membership
Membership is open to all CSUEB students. Members must be willing to:
- Attend monthly meetings (3 per quarter)
- Complete 1 hour of community or campus based service. Service options are reviewed at the start of each quarter and members are asked to select from a variety of options.

Meeting Topic: INformation about local mentoring programs will be complied and distributed to SLJ memebers and post on campus in help increase awareness of volunteer opportunites.
Things in the works for January:
1. Hayward chapters of both Boys and Girls club and Be A Mentor have been contact for potential outreach work.
2. CSUEB's e-Mentorship program director has also been contacted for potential outreach work.
3. Applied to two organizations for condom co-op.
February 2012: Poverty in US
SJL leadership council will contact five local agencies that deal with poverty related issues or offer financial support options for qualifying individuals, i.e. Humane Society, PG and E, etc.
Meeting Topic: The leadership council will spotlight two of the five investigated agencies. Discuss plans to start a clothing drive.
March 2012:
Mental Health Awareness Month
Addiction in the US
SJL leadership council will reach out to student health center for support with on-campus mental health services. SJL will research into less well knownAnonymous groups, i.e. Emotions anonymous and Co-dependent Couples Anonymous
Meeting Topic:
The leadership council will present information about Anonymous groups and distribute flyers with information on campus and in community. Discuss any developments from contacting Health Center.

Take Action
- Become aware of injustice around you.
- Increase your knowledge about issues of social injustice by reading newspapers, internet resources, and talking to others interested in creating change.
- Volunteer with an organization that is promoting change (see our links section).
- Have conversations with friends to spread your knowledge.
- Stand up and speak up! Intervene when you witness an injustice and let your voice be heard.
