Introducing New Chair of Kinesiology Dr. Paul Carpenter
Dr. Paul Carpenter will assume the position of Chair of Kinesiology effective Fall 2014 taking over from Dr. Penny McCullagh.Dr. Carpenter completed his B.Sc at Liverpool Polytechnic, his Masters at UCLA and his Ph.D. in Kinesiology at UCLA. Since 2002 he has served as Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education at Northern Illinois University. Before that he was Department Head of Applied Sport Sciences at University of East London, and prior to that a faculty member of DeMontfort University. Dr. Carpenter brings a wealth of administrative experience and he also has a strong scholarly record. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Carpenter is active in the Ultramarathon Cycling Association and participates in long distance endurance events. While in Illinois he rode his bike 30 miles each way to work (yes even in the bitter cold winter). Dr. Carpenter will help lead the faculty and nearly 800 Kinesiology majors.
Kinesiology is the discipline related to the scholarly study of sport, exercise and related activities from anatomical, biomechanical, developmental, physiological, psychological, sociological, philosophical and historical perspectives. Mission Statement
