Keyboard, Harp, & Guitar

Program Overview

The Music Department at CSU East Bay offers individual instruction in piano, organ, harpsichord, guitar, and harp. The goal is to help the student attain a deeper understanding of style and interpretation and develop technical ability. A wide variety of performance opportunities are offered including chamber ensembles, piano ensembles, guitar ensembles, harp ensembles, and the opportunity to accompany vocal and instrumental soloists. Recital opportunities both on and off campus are available. Special instruction in sightreading, keyboard harmony, and open score reading is offered through the class piano program.

Organ students are in great demand for church services throughout the Bay Area which affords good employment and performance opportunities. Piano, guitar, and harp students find employment opportunities accompanying various groups in churches and in private instruction. Graduates from the undergraduate program at CSUEB have been successful in entering graduate schools across the country and in establishing private teaching studios in many locations. Many graduates also hold college positions or are teaching in private and public school.
