Instrumental Ensemble Auditions
The University Instrumental Music Program is recognized for innovative programming and superb musicianship in performance. During the past several years, over thirty new works for wind band, composed by CSU East Bay faculty, students, and alumni have received their premiere performances. The East Bay Wind Symphony has performed at the College Band Directors National Association Western/Northwestern Division Conference, the California Music Educators Association State Conference, the CMEA Bay Section Conference, and as a featured ensemble at the California Band Directors Association Conference and the Western States Collegiate Wind Band Festival.
The East Bay Wind Symphony and Orchestra are the core instrumental ensemble of CSUEB and are open to all university students (majors and non-majors) by audition.

Scheduling an audition: Auditions for Fall Quarter 2015 will be held September 21-23, 2015. All prospective students interested in participating in the Wind Symphony (including returning students) must sign up for an individual audition. Please call Mariko Abe in the Music Department office at (510) 885-3135 to schedule your audition.
Note: Woodwind, brass and percussionists are only required to perform one instrumental ensemble audition. Students will be placed in Wind Symphony and/or Orchestra based on their audition and following consultation between the ensemble director and the applied faculty. Students should not finalize their schedules until they know to which ensemble they have been assigned.
Audition Procedure: All auditions are ten (10) minutes in length. Students are to prepare two contrasting excerpts to demonstrate both lyrical and technical aspects of playing (no accompaniment necessary). Students will be given sightreading excerpts. Auditions are open to all CSUEB students, regardless of major.
Students wishing to be considered for secondary instruments (piccolo, E-flat clarinet, tenor sax, baritone sax, etc.) are welcome to prepare an additional solo or etude excerpt for their audition, unless these instruments ARE their primary instruments.
Results: Audition results will be posted outside the rehearsal room (MB1039) on Friday (September 25, 2015).
