Prospective Music Major and Graduate Auditions
The department of Music requires all prospective undergraduate music majors and prospective graduate students interested in studying performance to complete an audition on their major instrument/voice. Auditions may be scheduled on an individual basis by completing the Music Department Application.
Students for whom distance is prohibitive may send a high quality recording of their audition performance via a link to online digital files (e.g. YouTube, Dropbox, Soundcloud) to email@example.com. All audition materials must be received by April 8, 2016, and auditions completed by January 30 will be considered for a scholarship.
All auditions, live or recorded, shall be approximately ten minutes long. All performance applicants are asked to perform two pieces, one that demonstrates technical facility and one that is more lyrical in character. Live auditions will also include sight reading. The performance should demonstrate accurate rhythms, pitch control, and interpretive awareness. Voice students should prepare two memorized selections, one of which must be in a language other than English. Art songs, arias, folk songs and musical theatre selections are preferred. Popular and gospel music selections are not acceptable. An accompanist will be provided.
