Prospective Music Major Auditions
The department of Music requires all prospective undergraduate music majors and prospective graduate students interested in studying performance to complete an audition on their major instrument/voice. Auditions may be scheduled on an individual basis by completing the Application Form. (This should be linked to the application form) Students for whom distance is prohibitive may request permission to send a recorded audition (high quality CD or DVD.)
All auditions, live or recorded, shall be ten minutes long. Prospective music majors will perform two pieces, one that demonstrates technical facility and one that is more lyrical in character. Live auditions will also include sight reading. The performance should demonstrate accurate rhythms, pitch control, and interpretive awareness. Voice students should prepare two memorized selections, one of which must be in a language other than English. Art songs, arias, folk songs and musical theatre selections are preferred. Popular and Gospel music is not acceptable. Accompaniment will be provided.
Prospective music majors for the 2014-2015 academic year must submit the Music Major Application Form
