Honors Convocation

Undergraduate students graduating with academic honors (Latin honors) will be invited to attend a special Honors Convocation ceremony Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. The Convocation will take place on the University peristyle, on the walkway and lawn in front of the Music Building.

Students are advised to arrive one hour prior to the event starting date (approx. 10 a.m.) to receive instructions and seating information.

Invitations will be mailed to the student's home address; both Hayward and Concord campus students will be invited.

Students with academic honors are recognized individually and receive a medallion to wear during the Commencement Ceremony. 

Invitations to Honors Convocation

Students who qualify for academic honors at graduation at the end of the Winter 2012 term will be sent an invitation in April to attend the Honors Convocation which will take place May 12, 2012.

Honors at graduation is calculated on the basis of your entire academic record. To qualify, you must meet all three of the following criteria assessed at the end of the Winter 2012 term:

  • Completed at least 60 quarter units of coursework in residence (as defined in the University Catalog) at Cal State East Bay AND  
  • Minimum Cal State East Bay grade point average of 3.65 AND
  • Have a Higher Education (Cumulative) GPA as follows:
    • 3.85 - 4.00 Summa Cum Laude (highest honors)
    • 3.75 - 3.84 Magna Cum Laude (high honors)
    • 3.65 - 3.74 Cum Laude (honors)

Graduation with Honors is governed by the University catalog in effect at the time of the student's graduation. For more information refer to the University's Academic Catalog.

RSVPs for Honors Convocation

Students participating in Honors Convocation must RSVP with planned attendance by May 4, 2012 through the Graduation Status/Commencement page in MyCSUEB. Students can submit an RSVP through MyCSUEB. The RSVP site will be available beginning April 24, 2012.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still attend Honors Convocation if I do not RSVP?
Yes. You can still attend the ceremony, but be advised that you will be presented at the end of your college's presentation after the students who confirmed their attendance. 

If I do not attend Honors Convocation, will I still receive my honors medallion?
Yes. After Honors Convocation, you can still receive your honors medallion. To pick up your medallion, visit the Student Services and Administration (SA) Building, Office of University Advancement located in Room 4800, from May 21 to June 11 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Medallions will not be released until this date, and students must present a photo ID. Only students graduating with honors receive a medallion. If you RSVP to attend the Convocation, you will receive your medallion at the ceremony. You are not able to receive the medallion before the ceremony.

I will be qualified for Honors at graduation in the Spring 2012 or Summer 2012 term, will I still be recognized? 
If you qualify for Honors at Graduation a notation will be made on your diploma and transcript once your degree has been posted. You may also present a copy of your unofficial transcript to the University Advancement office to receive a medallion.
