The role of overseeing the responsibilities of CMER is shared by two co-directors, one from the Math Department and one from Teacher Education Department. Having one faculty member with deep content knowledge and the understanding of the most important concepts in mathematics for all levels K-16 is a valuable requirement for successful programs. Also, having one faculty member with considerable K-12 teaching experience and considerable experience in pedagogical needs of mathematics teachers at all levels, along with the deep understanding of how students learn mathematics is invaluable.
