The professional education of a physician assistant is obtained at an accredited Physician Assistant program. Many of these programs are affiliated with a medical school. In addition to a Certificate of Completion, a Bachelor of Science or a Master of Science degree is also earned. The professional segment of the program is usually two to three years in duration. A national certifying examination is required.
Prior to admittance to a Physician Assistant program, you must complete the "prerequisites," a set of courses in science and communications required by that school. For a complete list of P.A. programs and their prerequisites, consult the handbook:
