Dr. Rafael Hernandez is Associate Provost for Academic Planning and Resources at California State University, East Bay. Prior to that appointment, he served as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Administration in the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS), Chair of the Department of Music and Director of the Multimedia Graduate Program. Rafael's creative work and research involves music, technology, and gaming. As a composer, his music has been heard in many venues across the United States. He is the creator of IV-V-I: The Harmony Game, a unique card game that uses the rules of music theory to learn about it through gameplay. He is also the creator of the Music Ed family of fonts, used by music educators worldwide in the creation of music learning materials for general music education. As a programmer, Rafael has authored video tutorials for Lynda.com and O'Reilly Media (the Infinite Skills imprint) on learning programming for mobile technologies. As well, he's published hundreds of hours of tutorials on YouTube that have been collectively viewed over 1 million times.
