Vibha  Puri

Lecturer

Department of Sociology

The courses that I teach include, but are not limited to, Sociology of Gender and Prejudice and Discrimination.

I have been teaching at CSU since the Fall of 1994. My doctoral dissertation is a theoretical analysis of capitalist development within the context of caste, class, gender, and ethnic/racial stratification. The classes I teach have a strong component of stratification and law with an emphasis on gender.

I am on the CSU academic senate as one of four lecturer representatives. I am also a representative for the program of Women's Studies in the California Faculty Association.

I am involved in volunteering for "Narika", an organization committed to the empowerment of women, who actively fight for the rights of women to be free from violence and exploitation.

I am working on a manuscript on the role of gender socialization and cultural myths which ‘naturalize’ subordination when ‘con’-structing gender.
