The Office of Faculty Development invites you to a Dossier Workshop for Tenure and Promotion. We'll answer your questions, review the procedures and changes to the document, and have model Dossiers. This workshop will focus specifically on the changes to the RTP process based upon the new approved senate procedures. Copies of the new RTP and "opt out" document will be available to all attendees or can be found at http://www.csueastbay.edu/OAA/docs.html. Dossiers are due Thursday, October 1st to your department chairs.

Managing Stress and Staying Healthy

Academic Integrity Week: Faculty Forum on Plagiarism and Cheating

Student plagiarism and cheating are a concern on campuses throughout the Country and CSU East Bay is no exception. In an electronically-rich environment, with so much information available, “borrowing” another writers’ work and cheating on tests, quizzes, and exams is easier than it has ever been. What do our students think about the nature and seriousness of plagiarism and cheating? More importantly, what can we do to discourage plagiarism and cheating, and what should we do if we suspect it? This session will examine these questions, provide preventive suggestions and explore our own efforts to create an intellectual community that promotes ethical standards and values academic integrity.

Document Submission in Blackboard

Keep student papers out of your email box by using the document submission tools in Blackboard. The Assignments tool allows students to send the instructor a paper that is viewable through the Grade Center. Turnitin runs the submitted paper through the Turnitin plagiarism software before delivering it to the Grade Center.

Civility in the Classroom: Handling Disruptions and Misconduct in the Classroom

Have you ever had difficult encounters with students? Have you wondered how to respond to inappropriate classroom behavior? Are you concerned about how the behavior of one student might adversely affect the classroom learning environment for all your students? You are not alone! Faculty express ongoing concern with the increasing number of difficult student problems encountered in the classroom. Research indicates college students are exhibiting more frequent and severe problems than in the past. This presentation and discussion among colleagues will review the research, identify the campus resources, explore ramifications of incivility in our classrooms, and present and debate the merits of possible solutions. Our goal is to create a stimulating and safe learning environment for all our students.

Making Use of Blackboard's Online Storage

Learn how to make use of Blackboard's Online Storage for storing course content and other types of shared documents. The Online Storage system can be integrated with the Blackboard Course System for sharing documents with a class or it can be used as online storage for sharing with colleagues on other institutions. This can be made easier by using the drag and drop feature available in Windows and the Mac operating systems.

Field Trip to the SCAA
