Reception and fundraiser for CSUEB’s Center for Sport & Social Justice, 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

- 3:00-5:00 pm – Pioneer Alumni Social: Go Forth & Be Inspired! Enjoy delicious appetizers and hear from two inspiring Pioneer Alumni who are taking action to improve lives locally and around the world. Special guests: Shaun Tai ’02 (Distinguished Young Alumnus, Founder and Executive Director at Oakland Digital), and Shakira Niazi, ’93, Founder & President, Salvare La Vita Water. Wear your Cal State East Bay/Hayward/Alameda State College clothing or come dressed in red, black, and white! At 5 pm, we’ll walk to the gym to help cheer the Pioneers to victory over the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles. Presenters: Ken Kahrs ‘73 and William Saleebey, Ph.D. ‘73
An inside look at the people and processes that power LA’s entertainment industry plus tips for success in networking and HR –principles you can apply in every industry. Ken Kahrs ’73 (BS, Recreation), the recently retired executive VP, HR for Universal Studios will share advice about how to break into and succeed in HR and entertainment. Noted networking guru, author, and speaker Dr. William Saleebey ’73 (MS, Counseling), an expert on the psychological dimensions of networking, will give a presentation from his new book Connecting: Key Networking Tips for Business and Life (available for sale at the event).

Join CSUEB alumna Anne K. Ross (’82, ’85) for light refreshments and a reading from her new book Beyond Rain Man: What one Psychologist Learned Raising a Son on the Autism Spectrum, being published in April, in time for autism awareness month. Anne’s book has been endorsed by Temple Grandin, Tony Attwood, Simon Baron-Cohen, Graeme Simsion, Fred Volkmar, and others. A school psychologist, Anne is a past winner of an American Psychological Association dissertation research award, and she has published in professional and literary journals. Her creative writing has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and a Lambda Literary Award. Her compelling and lyrical story of raising—and launching—her son is one of anguish as well as joy, and what she learns along the way will help other families who are living this perplexing, remarkable, and humbling journey of parenthood.
