Please contact an Accessibility Services counselor to discuss Assistive Technology registration and referrals @ 510-885-3868 before submitting this request if you have not registered and/or do not have a referral.

Captioning Instructional Materials

Use this service to request captioning of media materials that your use in your courses. This service is generally requested when you receive a notice that you need to accommodate a student in your course who has a a hearing disability. It is also a service you will request when you create a new course that incorporates multimedia materials with an audio component or you add a new multimedia component to an existing course. The ATSO office will coordinate the creation of transcripts and captioning of these media materials for you. Faculty may need to give ATSO staff access to their Blackboard course site to facilitate this. All new commercially produced media titles must be purchased with captions or with the rights to caption if a captioned copy is not available. Note: Using Blackboard to post handouts and other instructional materials is a good first step in making courses universally accessible. Captioning/Transcripts

Use this service to request captioning on transcripts.

Commercial Software VPAT Compliance Testing

Use this service to request Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT). VPAT Compliance Testing. Available for major enterprise level software implementations. The client should require a copy of the VPAT from the vendor nd provide this to the reviewer.

Course Material Conversion

This service is available by appointment to students with disabilities who have registered with the Accessibility Services and is intended as an emergency service until materials have been made accessible for the course by the instructor. Students must be registered with the Assistive Technology. Please contact an Accessibility Services counselor @ 510-885-3868 for more information if you have not registered with Accessibility Services.

Hardware Loan/Training

A variety of hardware devices designed to assist students with disabilities with their instructional activities is available for students who have registered with the Accessibility Services. Please contact an Assistive Technology counselor @ 510-885-3868 for more information regarding eligibility and registration.

Instructional Materials Conversion: Accessibility Software Tools & Training

Use this selection to obtain software and training that will assist you in the conversion of your PDF's, PowerPoints, handouts, etc. so that they are accessible to students with disabilities. Note: Complete Textbook and Course Pack conversions to "screen readable" formats are performed by the Student Disability Resource Center. Please contact them directly for this service. It is vital that your textbooks are ordered early in order to accomplish this conversion. Remote Live Classroom Session Captioning

This is an instructional support service, coordinated by the Assistive Technology on behalf of hearing impaired students who have registered with Assistive Technology. It is an alternate to providing a live interpreter in the classroom. Laptops are required. This selection would be used by Assistive Technology personnel requesting assistance from the ATSO office in setting up remote captioning connectivity in a classroom and training the student to use it.

Software Loan/ Installation/ Training

A variety of software designed to assist students with disabilities with their instructional activities is available for students who have registered with the Assistive Technology. Some of this software is available for installation on student personal computers. . An AT Assessment is generally required. An AT assessment is an evaluation session that will allow the Assistive Technology Office to match assistive technology to your specific educational needs. Blackboard

Course Development Consultation

Use this service to request a consultation on design, development, or redesign of a course for fully online/hybrid course delivery, or to enhance a face to face course. The consultation will be framed around instructional design principles and established best practices.

Online/Hybrid Program Development

Use this service to request a consultation on design, development, redesign, or enhancement of courses in a program. The consultation will be framed around instructional design principles and established best practices in program design. Program development emphasis will center around consistency of a program's course environments, ease of use and navigation, and other issues surrounding program specific design.

Create and Manage Organizations

Use this selection to request the creation of an organization or project site on Blackboard. In addition to course sites, Blackboard can host organization/project sites for group communications etc. These are similar to course sites but are not associated with a specific academic term. An organization Leader is required – the Leader is responsible for managing and monitoring the organization. Note: Academic organizations based on majors are already created automatically and students are already automatically enrolled in these organizations according to their declared majors. Other curricula groups may request organizational sites with chair approval.

Assign Additional Participants to a Course or Organization

Use this selection to request the addition of volunteer TA's, co-teachers, guests, or students making up incompletes from previous quarters to your Blackboard course, or Participants and Leaders to an existing organization. Note: Blackboard course rosters for the current quarter are automatically populated with students for all credit courses prior to the start of each quarter. This "assign additional" service is only needed to add users to the course/organization roster if the participant is not an official part of the course/organization roster.

Course Copy Support

Blackboard allows faculty to copy their courses from one term to another. This can include content and menu template. Choose to submit a ticket in this category if you having difficulty with this process. Faculty would normally copy courses in order to transfer content from an existing or prior quarter course or from a master course into the new course that has been created by the automatic quarterly process or to create a master course. Note: Empty course shells are created automatically prior to the quarter start with a default set of menu tools and have no content. There is no need to custom create course shells for these courses.

Managing Course Content in My Online Storage

Assistance/training is available for uploading and managing material on the Blackboard "My Online Storage" server. Material hosted here can be linked to a Blackboard course section and used across multiple sections. Materials stored in Blackboard's "My Online Storage" does not expire when term ends and links to materials on the server can be copied into new course sites without having to reenter the content in the new section manually.

Merge Course Sections

Current Blackboard Course sections can be merged at instructor's discretion. This service is usually requested when combined interactivity between multiple sections of the same course is desired.

Restore Course Archives

Current Blackboard Course sections can be merged at instructor's discretion. This service is usually requested when combined interactivity between multiple sections of the same course is desired.
