Supplemental Instruction (SI)
Fall 2009 - PHIL 1000 & 1001

SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION (SI) CAN HELP...
- Practice working with arguments
- Get experience using words like "premise," "conclusion," "validity"
- Get help with formal logic proofs
- Practice the stuff you need to do well in these PHIL classes
- Get the help of an SI tutor and your classmates
The SI study sessions are regularly scheduled, informal review sessions where students can compare notes, discuss readings and class discussions, develop organizational strategies that help to approach the material, and anticipate upcoming test topics and items. Students will learn to integrate course content and study skills while working together. The SI sessions are not designed to replace your classroom instruction, but rather to supplement it. While your participation in SI is voluntary, your instructor may encourage your attendance.
Each SI session is facilitated by an SI "Leader" who is a student tutor who has previously done well in the course and is working with your course instructors to develop the content and activities of the SI sessions.
SI is a free service offered to all students enrolled in any sections of PHIL 1000 and PHIL 1001 during the FALL 2009 quarter.
ALL SI SESSIONS WILL BEGIN ON OCT. 6 AND MEET IN CLASSROOMS in MEIKLEJOHN HALL
