Pioneers ranked #22 nationally by Collegiate Baseball

  • March 21, 2013

The Cal State East Bay baseball team (19-8, 12-8 CCAA) has reached another major milestone in what has been a remarkable 2013 season. For the first time since 1977, the Pioneers are ranked in the national Top-30 poll. For the week of Mar. 18, East Bay is No. 22 in the country according to the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper rankings. They're tied with St. Edwards at No. 22, receiving 112 vote points.

Following a four-game split with No. 13 Chico State last weekend, East Bay is in fourth place halfway through their conference schedule after having been picked to finish dead last. The Pioneers jumped all the way up to the 22nd position after not receiving any votes the previous week.

East Bay is one of four CCAA schools represented in this week's poll, joining No. 13 Chico State, No. 21 Cal State Monterey Bay, and No. 24 Sonoma State. Cal State L.A., Cal Poly Pomona, and UC San Diego are also receving votes in the top-30 poll.

The Pioneers also reached a program high when they were ranked in the No. 5 position in this week's NCBWA West Region poll, one spot higher than last week. Halfway through the 2013 schedule, East Bay has already matched its win total from 2012.
