Area Police Departments to Participate in Law Enforcement Forum This Weekend

  • April 11, 2013

Bay Area law enforcement agencies will unite for a public forum held at Cal State East Bay this Saturday.

The “Building Bridges, Police and Community Relationship Forum” will include representatives from Union City, Hayward, Oakland, San Francisco, BART, the Alameda County Probation Department and other agencies in the area.

“The forum will be a chance for citizens, community and religious leaders, youth, and police officials, to all come together and try to understand each other’s, missions, goals, perspectives [and] perceptions,” said Ben Horner of the Union City Police Department.

Guest speakers include San Francisco Chief of Police Greg Suhr, Bishop Jerry Macklin of Glad Tidings Church in Hayward and Terrill Swift, a Chicago man who was wrongfully imprisoned for 15 years.

Swift and three other men were convicted of murder in Chicago in 1994 of raping and strangling a prostitute when he was 17 years old. They were exonerated in 2011 after new DNA evidence linked another man to the crime.

The daylong event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the University Theater.
