Pioneer softball team raises funds for breast cancer research
- February 15, 2010 4:00pm
The Cal State East Bay softball team hosted a "Swing for Life" breast cancer awareness event on Sat. Feb. 13 against San Francisco State. Though the Pioneers fell in the doubleheader with the Gators, the event was a success, raising more than $1,000 for the Swing for Life Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money to contribute to ongoing and groundbreaking research in the fight against breast cancer.
The Pioneers recognized family and friends from both teams who have battled breast cancer, while both squads donned pink jerseys in honor of the event. The silent auction featured the Pioneers' game-worn "Swing for Life" jerseys, San Francisco 49ers apparel and a week's stay in Cabo San Lucas. The team also sold "Swing for Life" t-shirts and wristbands, helping to collect a grand total of $1,255 which will be donated, through the Swing for Life Foundation, to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation's research efforts. Thanks to all of our fans for their support in the fight against breast cancer!
