PBS's Tavis Smiley speaks at CSUEB, May 9

The ASI Diversity Center welcomes talk show host, author, political commentator, entrepreneur, advocate and philanthropist Mr. Tavis Smiley to Cal State East Bay on Monday, May 9th, 2011 at 7:30pm in the University Theatre. This event will highlight the work of Tavis Smiley and his forthcoming book FAIL UP: 20 Lessons on Building Success from Failure.  We hope you may inform your students about this event for it will enlighten and encourage your students to acquire greatness from within.  The first 200 guests in attendance will receive a free copy of Tavis Smiley’s new book, FAIL UP. This event is free to the CSUEB community (students, staff and faculty). A valid CSUEB ID must be presented at the door to recieve free CSUEB admission.

From the well known and highly talked about conversations with world figures, to his work in helping inspire the next generation of leaders, as a broadcaster, author, advocate and philanthropist, Tavis Smiley continues to be an outstanding voice for change. Currently, Smiley hosts the late night television talk show, Tavis Smiley on PBS, The Tavis Smiley Show distributed by Public Radio International (PRI) and is the co-host for Smiley & West, also distributed by PRI. Tavis Smiley is the first American to simultaneously host signature talk shows on both public television and public radio. In addition to his radio and television work, Smiley has authored fourteen books including the book he edited, Covenant with Black America, which became the first non-fiction book by a Black owned publisher to reach #1 on the New York Times bestseller list.
