Earth Day no longer has to arrive only once a year. With help from Cal State East Bay’s Net Impact Club, Earth Day can be celebrated everyday. The Everyday Is Earth Day Eco-Art Contest will showcase unique photography, sculptures, drawings and paintings related to the environment from students and staff. The second annual event takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. May 9 in the New University Union multi-purpose room on the Hayward campus. Other activities include raffles for prizes, information about the environment, a table where visitors can paint their own shirt and 3-D puzzles.

"The event will be a great place where people can come together, socialize, raise awareness and celebrate the earth through art," said Khanh Luu, president of the Net Impact Club.

This year, individual art pieces will be judged by guests. Voting tables will be accessible during the event as well as a Facebook page where visitors can “like” and judge artwork through pictures posted on the page. The art will be separated into two mediums: 2-D, such as drawings or paintings, and 3-D, such as sculptures. The winner from each medium receives $50.

20 art pieces have been submitted, including a wearable t-shirt made out of soda can tops. 100 people are expected to attend and The Net Impact Club encourages anyone to submit self-made art involving the environment by Monday, before the event begins.

The Net Impact Club is a chapter of a national organization. Its goal is to help the environment and create social change through business and community service. CSUEB’s club has worked with non-profit organizations including Habitat For Humanity.

"We want everyone to vote," Luu said. "People are going to enjoy the contest and learn about the environment."
