CSUEB dance students, alumni and faculty will be performing for an estimated 600 people Monday at the opening plenary of the Beyond Dynamic Adaptability Conference in San Francisco.

Led by Eric Kupers, assistant professor of theatre and dance, the 15-minute program entitled, “Friend,” will involve students Kaitlin Parks, a junior in theatre and dance; Benjamin Wright, a senior in music; and Chris Gallegos, a junior in art; plus CSUEB alumni: Stacz Sadowski, ‘93 theatre and dance; Keith Penney, ’10 physics; and Dana DeGuzman, ’11 music. They will be joined by performers from Kupers’ company, Dandelion Dancetheater, and John Killacky, former director of the Yerba Buena Center for Arts and San Francisco Foundation, who will read original poetry.

The free conference at the Marines’ Memorial Club and Hotel on Sutter Street will look at how changing participation is changing the arts, specifically, what happens when walls delineating professional and amateur, audience and artist, and curator and spectator crumble.

There will be five community discussions covering issues of technology, civic dialogue, collaboration, audience engagement, and learning from existing structures and practices in communities of color.
