CSUEB educational psychology grad students help the East Bay

Cal State East Bay students earning their master’s degrees in school psychology and school counseling promote social justice through coursework and practice in the field. They recognized that our local community has significant needs that require advocacy and support.  In January 2011, a group of these students formed the Social Justice League as a way to harness the CSUEB community and benefit those underserved in the community.

“Each month a Social Justice member will select a cause and the group will collectively focus efforts to promote awareness across the CSUEB campus,” said Ashley McDaid, one of the founding members.  During November and December, the group will focus on educating the CSUEB campus about local food insecurities by raising awareness, money, and food donations for the Alameda County Community Food Bank.  A food collection barrel will be located inside AE-250, Monday-Thursday, from 12pm-5pm.

Students have the full support from faculty and EPSY department. “Our students are doing great things to advocate and serve underrepresented populations. They go above and beyond coursework learning and developing their roles as professionals,” said Oanh Tran, assistant professor of educational psychology.
