'Blood, Sweets & Teas' at CSUEB Concord will help save lives

The East Bay Student Nurses' Association (EBSNA) at the Concord Campus collected 41 pints of blood at its annual Blood Drive event.  Over 45 donors consisting of students, faculty, staff and community members came out to support by donating blood. “It was definitely a community effort to save lives. [We had] a goal of 34 and we surely met that! We kept them busy that day” says Johna Bell Go, nursing student and event organizer.

The American Red Cross, Northern California Blood Services region holds hundreds of blood drives per year; often partnering with community groups and college organizations like EBSNA. “[The] commitment to the American Red Cross Blood Donor Program is greatly appreciated. It helps us to ensure that the many bay area hospitals have a safe and adequate blood supply for their patients,” says Felicia Elam of the American Red Cross.

East Bay students wanted to be sure everyone would get involved. The theme “Blood, Sweat and Teas” attracted everyone from the campus. The community really got behind the blood drive! Generous sweets and treats were donated by Costco and Starbucks.

It made the blood drive so festive that one student suggested that the American Red Cross become a quarterly presence on the Concord campus so they could consistently donate blood.
