CSUEB closed Jan. 21; Pioneers honor MLK through community service

Cal State East Bay will be closed on Monday, Jan. 21 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. CSUEB students, faculty and staff will use that day to honor Dr. King through an off-campus community service project.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Pioneers will particpate in Planting Trees with Urban Releaf, at 27th and Market streets, in Oakland. Planting street trees in West Oakland is an eco-friendly way to celebrate the life and legacy of a man who sowed seeds of hope, nonviolence and equality for all.
“The National Day of Service gives us the opportunity to honor Dr. King’s legacy and give back to our community by engaging in projects that make the earth a better place,” says Urban Releaf founder and director Kemba Shakur. “It’s a time for us to come together, and engage community partners, youth, and community members on the benefits of planting trees and how they relate to our environment.”
