Cal State East Bay alumna Agnes Liong ’12 will be a contestant in the 2013 Miss Vietnam Northern California Intercollegiate™ (MVNCI) Pageant which takes place on March 3. This scholarship pageant aims to celebrate today’s Vietnamese and Vietnamese-American women, and to encourage their personal growth. Liong’s platform will focus on stopping identity-based bullying.

When asked why she’s participating in this pageant, Liong responded, "I want to be an inspiration that you can be a young leader, no matter at what your age.”  Her goals extend beyond the stage and crown. “My ultimate career goal is to succeed in the field I am most passionate about, fashion.  I want to establish an international fashion corporation which will carry all shapes and sizes.” Liong is also in the progress of designing her own clothing line which will be available in 2014.

She says that being the financial manager for the International Students Association at Cal State East Bay shaped her into an effective leader and team player.  She gives a special ‘shout out’ to Gregory Theyel, associate professor of business management, for his teaching method. “He mixed the lecture with updated news, humor and, of course, lots and lots of facts and study materials.”

Pioneers can help Agnes by liking and sharing her pageant Facebook page. She’ll receive one point for every “like” and three points for a “share”. Points will contribute to her overall standing at the pageant.

Good luck, Agnes!
