Emily Schaefer, a former Pioneer basketball player, and Kelsie Kruger, a former assistant coach at Adams State University, have joined CSUEB women's basketball as new assistant coaches. They will be working with head coach Suzy Barcomb to help lead East Bay women's hoops to its third straight postseason appearance in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

"Kelsie and Emily have outstanding work ethics and great character, and they're both ecstatic about joining the coaching staff," said Barcomb. "Emily is an East Bay graduate, so we're thrilled to welcome her back to the family. Kelsie has experience both playing and coaching at the Division II level. She was a successful student-athlete and will be a valuable addition for us."

Schaefer played basketball at Cal State East Bay for two seasons after transferring from Butte College in Oroville, Calif. in 2007. She served as team captain and played in 26 games as a senior, scoring a season-high 10 points in a game against Simpson University. She graduated from CSUEB in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in history.

A former standout hoops player at Adams State in Alamosa, Colo., Kruger joins the Pioneers after serving as an assistant on her alma mater's coaching staff during the 2012-13 season. Prior to that, she was a graduate assistant for the volleyball and women's basketball teams at Iowa Lakes Community College in 2011-12. As a collegiate player, Kruger helped lead the Grizzlies to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division II postseason tournament in 2009-10 and 2010-11.
