The truth about California's water quality, Nov. 16

  • November 12, 2013 5:00am

California faces serious resource challenges, none more pressing than those bearing on water supplies.  Chemical engineer Thomas E. Lindemuth will lead a discussion, “Delta Water Health,” on Nov. 16 at 1:30pm.

Locally, the health of the Delta commands attention because of its impact on regional ecologies, economies, and even cultures.  Lindemuth offers us a close look at how water quality is measured and what that measurement can tell us about the fate of plant, animal, and human habitats dependent on clean water. Seepage from municipal sewage, agricultural runoff, and runoff from urban places all pollute Delta water. What can be done to reduce such threats, and what obstacles, political and natural, stand in the way?

This event is provided as part of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) program and will take place at the Baywood Court, 21966 Dolores Street, Castro Valley. This presentation will be free OLLI members and $5 for non-members. Visit the OLLI Web site to register for the lecture.
