CSUEB water polo seniors Hudyn, Zell earn All-America honors

Seniors Sara Hudyn and Allison Zell were named to the 2014 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America Team, announced on Monday.

Hudyn, a 2-meter specialist was named a First Team selection for the second straight year and Zell, a driver was named to the Second Team to cap off her collegiate career.

Hudyn, a Kitchener, Ontario, Canada native finished her Cal State East Bay career as the program's second leading scorer with 247 goals. In her senior season she led the Pioneers with 75 goals, 41 steals, and ranked second with 28 drawn ejections and 21 assists. Hudyn ranks in the program's all-time top 10 with 79 assists (7th) and 165 steals (5th).

Zell, a native of Walnut, Calif., led the Pioneers with 43 assists, ranked second with 40 steals, and third with 27 goals. She was a two-time Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Tournament Team pick including a First Team selection in 2014. In two seasons with Cal State East Bay she amassed 62 goals, 78 assists and 76 steals.

Hudyn finished runner-up in the ACWPC Player of the Year voting to UC San Diego's Sarah Lizotte. Tritons Head Coach Brad Kreutzkamp was named the ACWPC Coach of the Year.

Cal State East Bay finished the year 17-14 and second in the WWPA standings. The Pioneers appeared in the WWPA Tournament title game for the first time in program history to conclude the 2014 campaign.
