Joseph W. Andrews, former Concord Campus community services officer, passes away

Joseph William Andrews, a former community services officer for the Concord Campus of California State University, East Bay, passed away in San Diego due to heart failure Nov. 4. He was 72.
Andrews, who served the university between 1995 and 2001, will be laid to rest in a 2 p.m. service at Golden Gate National Cemetery, 1300 Sneath Lane, San Bruno Thursday, Nov. 13. A memorial service will be conducted for him at the Williams San Diego Memorial Chapel, 2441 University Ave., San Diego at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11.
He is the father of Joseph Andrews, current Cal State East Bay assistant budget officer, and father-in-law of Evelyn Padua Andrews, former CSUEB director of registration and records who is now registrar for Cal State San Marcos.
Prior to working for CSUEB, the elder Andrews served for more than 22 years in the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of gunnery sergeant. A Vietnam veteran, he completed two tours of duty as chief steward for several generals, a number of whom later became Marine Corp commandants. After that he spent 20 years as chef and kitchen manager for various restaurants in the San Diego area.
In retirement, he loved spending time with his five grandchildren, Jeremy, Joseph, Richard, Jonathan, and Melanie. He is survived by Meiko, his wife of 49 years; son Joseph and daughter-in-law Evelyn of Livermore; son Richard and daughter-in-law Michelle of Loganville, GA; brother Richard Andrews of Pacifica; sister Patricia Mills of San Mateo; and sister-in-law Toeko Redden of Parowan, UT.
