Huggett Appointed Director of Gov't. & Community Relations
- January 6, 2009
Kim Huggett, veteran California State University, East Bay spokesperson and director of public relations, has been formally appointed director of community and government relations. For the past 10 months, Huggett has served as part-time interim director of government and community relations while also managing the public relations department of the Office of University Communications.
"This appointment not only recognizes Kim's exemplary performance as interim director but also the importance of filling this position with a highly qualified, full-time professional at a critical legislative and budgetary time," said Bob Burt, vice president for University Advancement. "Kim's intimate knowledge of the University, our regional role and strategic goals, and the legislative environment in which we operate assures us of having an advocate with proven expertise and effectiveness."
In addition to his government and community relations responsibilities, Huggett will continue to serve as the University's public information officer and chief media spokesperson, roles in which "he has served with distinction for the past 12 years," Burt added.
With his new responsibilities, Huggett will report directly to the vice president for University Advancement. Huggett's former position, director of public relations, will remain vacant in an effort to reduce costs within University Advancement and to conserve resources for CSUEB's pending comprehensive campaign.
Staff formerly reporting to Huggett - Monique Beeler, associate director of public relations, and Barry Zepel, media relations officer - will report directly to Jay Colombatto, executive director of University Communications.
