University Community Invited to Faculty Convocation Today

The California State University, East Bay community is invited to attend the 2009 Faculty Honors Convocation today, Friday, Feb. 27, at 4:30 p.m. in the New University Union on the Hayward Campus.

Honorees will include the recipient of the outstanding professor award for 2008 and faculty who were awarded tenure, emeritus status, or completed 25 years of service in 2008.

A highlight of the event will be a presentation by Bijan Gillani, winner of the 2008 George and Miriam Phillips Outstanding Professor Award. Honored for his pioneering work in using the Internet as an educational tool, Gillani has taught at Cal State East Bay for 15 years.

The program will begin with a processional of the president's platform party and award recipients at 4:30 p.m. and will conclude with a reception.

Faculty members to be recognized for their new tenure or emeritus status will be presented with the University Medallion. If they have not already done so, those receiving recognition should contact the Office of the President for additional information at (510) 885-3877.

Employees should check with their managers before planning to attend. Supervisors may arrange for attendance by department staff members as long as operational needs can still be met.
