Saxophonist Greg Osby will headline Cal State East Bay's 23rd Annual Jazz Festival Concert with the University Jazz Ensemble at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 18 in the University Theatre on CSUEB's Hayward Campus, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.

Osby--also a composer, producer and educator--first established himself as a sideman for artists as varied as Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Jack DeJohnette, Andrew Hill, Muhal Richard Abrams, Jim Hall and Jaki Byard. He has gone on to record 15 albums for Blue Note Records since 1990.

On Channel Three, his latest recording, Osby teams with drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts and bassist Matt Brewer.

"Osby is among the leading innovators of his generation," said Johannes Wallmann, assistant professor of music and event director. "We are very excited to feature such a prolific and unique performer as part of our jazz festival."

Frank La Rocca, chair of Cal State East Bay's Department of Music, echoed Wallman's comment, saying "We hope the CSUEB community will take advantage of this great musical event happening right in its own backyard."

Tickets at $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and youths, and $10 for CSUEB students, are available by telephone at (510) 885-3167 or (510) 885-3261. Additional information is available at http://class.csueastbay.edu/music/Annual_Jazz_Festival.php.
