CSUEB Loses in NCAA Women's VB Tourney

CSUEB Women's Volleyball Team
The University of Puget Sound (20-8) defeated the University of La Verne in five games (30-28, 32-34, 20-30, 30-25, 15-11) to win the NCAA Division III West Regional Volleyball Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 10) in Pioneer Gym.

To qualify for the championship match, La Verne defeated CSUEB on Friday (Nov. 9) in five exciting games 26-30, 30-23, 32-34, 30-28, 15-13, while Puget Sound swept Pacific Lutheran in three games 30-27, 30-18, 30-25.
In their loss to La Verne, the Pioneers were led by Jackie Randolph (24 kills, 19 digs), Beverly Hazell (19 kills, 19 digs), and Lauren Massa (35 digs). La Verne was led by the 28 kills and 17 digs of Briana Gonzales and the 34 digs of Katherine Randall.
In the first round on Thursday (Nov. 8), CSUEB advanced in tourney action Thursday by defeating Colorado College in four games (30-25, 30-15, 28-30, 30-18).
The CSUEB team finishes its season with a record of 29-5 and ranked No. 9 in the nation.
The winner of Saturday's match will represent the west region in the NCAA national championship tournament Nov. 15-17 at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill.
In their victory over Colorado College Thursday, Coach Jim Spagle's Pioneers were led by the 19 kills and 26 digs of junior outside hitter Jackie Randolph. Other top CSUEB players in that match were junior outside hitters Kelly Paris (18 kills) and Beverly Hazell (14 kills) and junior middle blocker Jessica Juarez (10 kills). Their teammate, freshman libero Lauren Massa, led all Pioneer players defensively with 28 digs. Colorado College was led by the 11 kills and 14 digs of Emily Perkins.
