MBA Team Wins Competition in Moscow

Students in the California State University, East Bay MBA program in Moscow won first place in the seventh annual Case Competition for graduate business schools sponsored by the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia.
The April 23 competition featured 10 teams, five each competing in English and Russian language competitions. Cal State East Bay took home first place in the Russian-language event, followed by Moscow University Touro and the Finance Academy of the Government of the Russian Federation Institute of Business and Business Administration.
In the English division, the American Institute of Business and Economics team claimed first place, Cal State East Bay took second and the Classical Business School claimed third.
The competition was devised by the American Chamber of Commerce, Cal State East Bay (formerly Hayward), the Institute of Business and Economics and five Russian MBA programs seven years ago as a means to showcase graduate management education in Moscow.
According to Gary Wishniewsky, academic director for the Cal State East Bay MBA program, the Cal State East Bay teams had the guidance of Svetlana Avrutskaya, program manager with the Institute of Business and Economics. The first place Russian language team presented an analysis of Alfa Bank, a major Russian bank faced with competitive and regulatory uncertainties in the domestic banking industry. Leonella Zaraikina, Human Resources Director for Citigroup, and a graduate of the CSUH MBA-4 program, was one of the Russian language judges.
The Cal State East Bay English language team took second place with an analysis of Royal Dutch/Shell's operations in the oil and gas industry on Sakhalin Island, including an alliance with Gazprom, Russia's natural gas monopoly.
According to an independent study appearing in the Russian business journal Kariera, the Cal State East Bay MBA program is the No. 1 program among 15 business schools in Moscow. Cal State East Bay has consistently enjoyed the top ranking since 1998.
