John S. Kolbisen and Marvin Remmich, both Cal State East Bay alumni, have been elected to the university's 30-member Educational Foundation Board of Trustees.
Kolbisen is owner of La Petite Baleen in Half Moon Bay and San Bruno. Remmich is president of RAM Properties in Danville.
"We're pleased to have added the expertise of these two outstanding supporters of the university to our educational foundation board of trustees," said Bob Burt, vice president for University Advancement for Cal State East Bay.
Kolbisen and his wife, Irene, operate La Petite Baleen, an aquatics and fitness center that focuses on children's swimming lessons. They began it as a family operation 25 years ago when the couple started offering lessons in their backyard pool to 40 families.
Kolbisen, who earned his bachelor's degree in business administration in 1970 from Cal State East Bay, started his career as an elementary school teacher in Half Moon Bay in 1972. He also is a member of the Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber of Commerce and is vice chair of the San Bruno Redevelopment Project Area Committee. The Kolbisens reside in Half Moon Bay.
Remmich founded RAM Properties, a residential and investment real estate firm, in 1974. He earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from Cal State East Bay in 1969 and later earned a master's degree in business from Golden Gate University.
Before starting RAM Properties, he was chief financial officer of Doctors of San Leandro Hospital (now San Leandro Hospital). He is former president of Crow Canyon Country Club Estates Community Association and has volunteered his time as a mentor to high school students through the organization, Students in Business. Remmich and his wife, Susan, reside in Danville.
