COMMON FACULTY/STAFF CONCERNS

Common Faculty and Staff Concerns
Incident Contact Support Provided

Faculty has question or concern about an SDRC approved accommodation.

Call SDRC and ask to speak to a counselor or the Director.

SDRC will review the accommodation determination based on faculty concern. If appropriate, a possible new accommodation strategy will be discussed with the student. If a change is made SDRC will notify faculty. Otherwise, the existing accommodation will remain in effect.

A student indicates to faculty that a disability may be impeding their learning

Recommend that student visit or call the SDRC for an evaluation of their possible disability.

A student's disability and functional limitations must first be evaluated by SDRC before any disability accommodation will be provided by the University. SDRC will invite the student to submit documentation of a disability from a competent authority. If they have none SDRC will guide the student on how to secure such documentation. In some cases, a provisional accommodation may be provided while this documentation is sought.

Classroom is declared inaccessible to people with disabilities, by either a student or faculty member.

Contact SDRC or facilities management or the campus ADA officer (in HR Department).

An accommodation solution will be sought (it might mean moving the class or meeting to an accessible location).

A student with a disability fails to perform or meet the standards all students must meet in your academic program.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact SDRC on 5–3868 and ask to speak to a counselor.

The student´s counselor will work with you to ensure that the failure to perform was due to poor performance and not a disability accommodation issue.

You suspect a student, not identified as having a particular disability, may be failing because of a possible disability.

As you might for all students having difficulties, remind them of related campus resources and include among them SDRC. Don't suggest that they have a disability.

It´s completely up to the student to come to SDRC if they suspect they have an undiagnosed disability.

A student with a disability violates the Code of Conduct

Contact Judicial Affairs on 5–3763 for guidance, as you would for any such student

They will help you determine what course of action to pursue.

You feel threatened and you have immediate safety concerns about an SDRC student's behavior

Call campus police as you might normally.

They will help manage the situation and pursue appropriate follow-up actions.
