Admission Support
Applicants with disabilities who are seeking special admissions consideration should contact the SDRC and speak with a counselor regarding their circumstances.
Alternative Testing
Students deemed eligible for this service typically receive extra time for tests along with the specific accommodations determined by the SDRC. Immediately after enrolling in classes, the student must submit an Accommodations Request Form (ARF) - Microsoft Word Format ; Accommodations Request Form (ARF) - (PDF Format)* . Once a student has been approved for this accommodation, the student must submit a "Request for Alternative Testing Form" to the instructor for completion and return it to SDRC one week before any quizzes and midterms (for each one) and two weeks before the beginning of Finals week. Alternate Media or Books in Alternate Formats
Students with verified print disabilities may be eligible for books in alternate format (e-text or recorded). Adaptive Classroom Furniture
Students with verified disabilities that cannot make the use of standard classroom furniture can be approved for special classroom furniture. This University has in each classroom a height adjustable classroom table, with a standard classroom chair that can be reserved for an SDRC student who has been approved for this accommodation. If such students need an adjustable or special chair due to a verified disability a special chair can also be assigned to the student. Disability Management Counseling
Disability management counseling is available to students who are registered with the SDRC. These meetings are confidential, and focus on assisting and supporting students in dealing with disability-related issues as they impact their role as students at CSUEB. SDRC counselors help students identify and consider strategies for addressing their concerns. While this counseling can be very helpful, and clearly is often quite personal, it is not intended to be a substitute for therapy. Occasional brief drop-in sessions are possible, but appointments are strongly encouraged. Please contact the SDRC (LI 2400) to arrange an appointment.
Advance Registration
Some SDRC students can be approved for advance registration. This accommodation is available to students who meet certain criteria so that they can better schedule their classes to meet their respective disability needs. For example, if it takes extra time to get from one class to the next, please use early registration to schedule your classes with longer time intervals between classes.
Sign Language Interpreting and Real-time Captioning
Students approved for sign language interpreting and captioning services must use their approved accommodation of Advance Registration. Immediately after enrolling in classes, the student must submit an Accommodations Request Form (ARF) - Microsoft Word Format; Accommodations Request Form (ARF) - (PDF Format)* to SDRC. Students eligible for this service will be assigned interpreters or captioners by the Interpreting and Print Communication Services (IPCS) Coordinator and will be expected to follow the Guidelines for Use of Interpreting and Captioning Services.
Mobility Orientation
An SDRC staff member will conduct an orientation for students with mobility limitations. Best routes to the classrooms will be explored along with accessible campus facilities. To arrange for a mobility orientation, please contact SDRC. Also refer to our campus access map.
Note-taking
Note-taking accommodations are provided to eligible students who have a documented disability that impairs lecture access. Immediately after enrolling in classes, the student must submit an Accommodations Request Form (ARF) - (Microsoft Word Format), or Accommodations Request Form (ARF) - (PDF Format)* A needs assessment will be made during the intake appointment to determine if the student is eligible for this accommodation. With the aid of a classroom note-taker, the student has access to lecture information that will assist in learning of the material and completion of the course. Students eligible for this accommodation recruit their own note-takers from each class, or ask the professor for assistance. Read more about this service in our Note-taking Policy.
Tape Recording of Lectures
Tape recording of lectures can be an approved accommodation provided to eligible students who have a documented disability that impairs lecture access. Immediately after enrolling in classes, the student must submit an Accommodations Request Form (ARF) - Microsoft Word Format ; Accommodations Request Form (ARF) - (PDF Format)* A needs assessment will be made during the intake appointment to determine if the student is eligible for this accommodation. Parking Fee Waiver
A CSUEB student with a verified mobility disability may be eligible for a waiver of parking fees. To qualify the student must
- have documentation of a mobility disability verified by the Student Disability Resource Center
- possess a distinguishing license plate or placard issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles
- demonstrate financial need according to the need analysis procedures for campus-based financial aid
- attend CSUEB either full or part time
- not receive any other assistance for parking fees from the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation or other financial aid sources.
Please contact the Student Disability Resource Center (SDRC) to complete the Request for Waiver of Campus Parking Fee. A new form must be completed for every quarter a fee waiver is requested.
Referrals

Temporary Disabled Parking Permit
Students or CSUEB staff and faculty with a temporary mobility impairment may request a temporary disabled parking permit through the SDRC. These permits are valid for anwhere between two weeks and three months, depending upon the medical verification provided by the applicant.
Assistive Technology
Assistive software and hardware are available in student computer labs, Library Learning Commons, SDRC, and the Concord Campus to assist students with disabilities. To utilize Kurzweil software, students must register with the Office of Assistive Technology, Library Complex, LI 1121. Braillers, recorders, visual enlargers, talking calculators, and other assistive devices may be available. Read more about this service on the Assistive Technology Office webpage.
