LIVE-SCAN:
"Live Scan" refers to the use of a computer-based device which directly reads the fingerprint patterns of a subject. The prints are collected into an electronic medium from a person's fingers rather than being read from a rolled ink card. The fingerprint image, along with the demographic information about the subject, is immediately transmitted electronically to a central data-base for print comparison. Live-Scan results are usually returned within 72 hours.
ROLLED INK PRINTS:
Effective July 1, 2005, Penal Code section 11077.1 mandates the Department of Justice only accept electronically-transmitted fingerprint images from regulatory entities performing background investigations of applicants. FD-258 fingerprint cards will not be submitted after July 1, 2006.
