Upward Bound
About Us

History of Upward Bound Program
Upward Bound is a product of the Civil Rights Movement. It is one of the concessions won from the federal government to assure low-income students equal access to institutions of higher learning. The central idea behind Upward Bound is that students from traditionally underrepresented groups will be prepared to successfully compete in post-secondary institutions by providing them with a simulated college experience rich in academic and motivational support.
Upward Bound at California State University, East Bay
The Upward Bound (UB) program at California State University, East Bay has been funded to serve students at Hayward High School, Mt. Eden High School, Tennyson High School, San Lorenzo High School, and James Logan High School. Services during the Academic Year include tutoring, academic and personal advising, and college advisement including assistance with the completion of college and financial aid applications. In addition, our Saturday Sessions include academic classes, enrichment classes, social and cultural events. During the summer, students participate in an intensive six weeks of summer academic programming. Students are enrolled in college-prep courses and have the opportunity to participate in a variety of cultural and recreational activities that will help to develop self-confidence and encourage both academic and personal growth.

"OUR STUDENTS ARE GOING TO COLLEGE"
The Upward Bound Parents Advisory Council (PAC) exists to provide moral and financial support to all students in the California State University, East Bay Upward Bound (CSUEB–UB) program. We will provide moral support by attending all planning and informational meetings and student sponsored events. In addition, we will work jointly with the UB staff to ensure that the needs of all students are met. Our students will be held to the highest standards of excellence. We will provide financial support through annual voluntary contributions and PAC–sponsored fundraising events.
