
Graduation & Commencement
Graduating from California State University, East Bay is an exciting time to celebrate your accomplishments. You’ve earned your degree and you’re about to begin life as a college graduate, with a world of possibilities in your future.
As you approach the last year you expect to finish your degree, you should review the instructions on these pages to make sure you have completed all required coursework, file for graduation on MyCSUEB, and make plans to attend your commencement or graduation ceremony.
Commencement Ceremonies
Commencement ceremonies are a time to share the celebration of your success with family and friends. The Commencement ceremonies and Honors convocations recognize your achievements and are held annually in the spring. Filing for Graduation
Filing for Graduation is a required step for all students wishing to graduate from Cal State East Bay, except for Credential Program students. Students who are completing a Credential program only (with no additional graduate degree programs in progress) do not need to File for Graduation. Check with your Credential Program office for additional information.
To File for Graduation, follow these steps:
- Log in to MyCSUEB with your NetID and password. Under “Student Center ,” select the “Apply for Graduation” link and follow the prompts to select the degree and term for your graduation. Please refer to Important Dates to view the deadlines to file for graduation.
- After you file for graduation, a $45 graduation filing fee will be applied to your student account.
- Contact your major and minor departments to initiate a graduation check form, which will be completed by the department and sent to the graduation evaluations office for further review.

Graduation Application Updates
Your graduation application is good for three quarters after the term in which you filed for graduation. (Example: graduation term is Spring 2009 you may request an update of your graduation term to Winter 2010). After that time has passed, you will be required to submit a new application for graduation and pay the filing fee again.
Requests to update your graduation term must be sent from your Horizon e-mail account to the Office of the Registrar at reg@csueastbay.edu.
Remove FERPA Block if Applicable
If you have requested a FERPA block be placed on your record to prevent disclosure of your directory information, your name will not be printed in the commencement program unless you request the block be removed. Diplomas
If you meet all graduation requirements, two to three months after the graduation filing quarter of candidacy ends, your degree will be posted to your academic record in MyCSUEB. The Office of the Registrar will mail diplomas to candidates who have completed all degree requirements six to eight weeks after your degree is posted to your record. Your legal name, which appears on your official academic record and transcript, will be printed on the diploma.
For alumni who wish to reorder copies of their diploma, you may submit the Diploma Reorder Form (pdf) and payment by mail to:

Verify your Name and Address in MyCSUEB
Diplomas are mailed to the permanent address of record with the University. Please verify correct spelling of your name and accuracy of your permanent mailing address in MyCSUEB on the Graduate Status page.
Changes to your permanent mailing address may be made directly in MyCSUEB. To ensure your diploma is sent to a new address, changes must be received by the last day of instruction of your final term. Address changes made after your last term of instruction may not guarantee delivery of your diploma, and charges for a reorder may apply.
For legal name changes to your official academic record and diploma, complete the Personal Data Change Form and attach appropriate documentation no later than the fourth week of instruction of your last term.

For making changes to your permanent (home) mailing address record, or your local (mailing) address, enter the changes online directly in MyCSUEB.
