National College Health Assessment 2014
California State University, East Bay
Frequently Asked Questions
How was I selected to participate in the Health Assessment survey?
Approximately 3,000 CSUEB Spring Quarter 2014 students age 18 or older will be randomly selected to participate in this study.
What is the purpose of the Health Assessment survey 2014?
CSUEB Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS) is interested in understanding the health status and needs of the student population.
Data will be compiled and analyzed with statistical software. A summary report will be created and made available to students interested in the outcome. You can view the 2012 summary report here.
Gathering general health information will allow SHCS to design new services and build upon current health programs to better meet our students’ health care needs.
How did you select the subject areas to ask about?
We are using the National College Health Assessment (NCHA) survey, developed by the American College Health Association (ACHA). Their survey was chosen because they have successfully implemented and used this tool to collect valuable data with universities throughout the nation.
Subject areas within the survey cover a variety of general health topics to provide an overall picture of student health.
Is this really confidential?
YES!!! We want our student participants to feel confident knowing that NONE of the information students provide will be shared with other parties. Students will receive a unique ID to protect their identity while participating in the survey. Student names and email addresses will NOT be linked to their responses.
The files containing email addresses and unique IDs are housed at ACHA and will be destroyed after data are compiled.
Why should I participate?
Student Health & Counseling Services is here to help promote optimal health among students. All CSUEB students will benefit from this project.
The results may provide justification for requesting additional funding to support student health programs and policies.
What do I get if I complete the survey?
The first 500 students who complete the survey will receive a $5 Bay Bucks credit on their Bay Card.
What if I am disabled and need help completing the survey?
If you need this survey in an accessible format, please call the Accessibility Services, (510) 885-3868, and ask for the NCHA survey.
