Individual counseling is a one on one confidential meeting with a counselor which students use to help themselves navigate challenges, struggles, and problems. In individual counseling, you meet with an experienced, professional counselor who can do several things with you;
- Your counselor will talk with you about what concerns and challenges are bringing you in. Not everyone always knows why they have come, but only that they feel overwhelmed, sad, anxious, or stressed.
- Your counselor will assess the things which might contribute to how you are feeling and reacting in your life, and you will collaboratively come up with a plan for how you will address these issues in counseling.
- Your counselor will actively work with you on the problems you have identified and help you to shift thoughts, feelings, and behaviors which you wish to change.
- Your counselor will refer you to appropriate services which may be of benefit to you such as couple’s counseling, group counseling, medical evaluations,academic support, or accessibility services.
Here are some of the issues students frequently bring to individual counseling to address;
- Family Problems
- Substance Use
- Feeling Overwhelmed
- Social Anxiety/Isolation
- Academic Stress
- Body Image
- Self Esteem
- Cultural Issues
- Life Transitions
- Body Image
Our services are not limited to the above issues. Please talk with a counselor to see if your concerns might be helped in counseling.
